I began my education career as a teacher, and advanced to the position of Chief Curriculum Co-ordinator of the VEO curriculum team before taking up my current role as school Principal. Undertaking these different work experiences has enabled me to appreciate the true meaning of the teaching spirit. An effective educator understands the needs of the school community, and how to facilitate a successful education for all involved. Middle Kornhill campus prides itself on its close relationships between parents and teachers. This partnership ensures that we are all heading in the same direction; to help our students to be the best they can be.
I believe paying attention to the quality of time spent with the children plays an important part during the children’s growth process. I like to keep close contact with the school community and to work in harmony with them. Let’s work together to support each other so that each child may grasp the opportunity for a happy life.
I’m Laura Mannering and I come from picturesque Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been an early years teacher for many years. First graduating from Dalhousie University with a degree in Classical Literature, and then completing my teaching qualification at The University of Hong Kong. As a passionate and open-minded IB PYP teacher I believe education should be fun, playful, and limitless. I enjoy the challenges of teaching and reflecting on my practice so I’m always growing in my profession. My students and colleagues inspire me every day and give me confidence to take risks and brave new challenges. Before coming to Hong Kong I worked on the beautiful island of Jeju, in South Korea. I look forward to sharing my experience and creativity with everyone here at Victoria Middle Kornhill.
As an educator, I understand the importance of students receiving the vital skills and tools that are necessary to meet their full potential. It is my responsibility as an educator to ensure that learning takes place in a safe, open and supportive environment so that students can become lifelong learners and successful global citizens.
